COVID-19 has plunged the world into uncertainty whilst Governments, health-care workers and volunteers do their best to contain the Corona Virus Pandemic and save lives. We are very aware of the devastating socio-economic impacts it is having in southern Africa, a region that relied heavily on tourism. Governments have closed borders and initiated lockdowns and many people are concerned for their health without running water and with few possibilities for self-isolation. Some of the worst impacts so far are economic. Many people have lost their jobs, many companies have gone bust and governments already burdened with debt are now under severe economic strain. This all means that people are struggling to make ends meet and many are vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition.
The current situation in southern Africa is desperate. One of the immediate needs is food. Many people go hungry as they struggle to provide basic food for their families and the future looks bleak.
