Water and Sanitation
Communities within Swaziland often have limited to no support for clean water and /or sanitation services. Rivers and dams are shared with the individuals of the communities for drinking, swimming, bathing and washing cars along with the local cattle as their water source. In 2013, Lewis & Clark College completed a study called, “Household-scale environmental health in the Ezulwini Valley, Swaziland” which focused on four communities in the Ezulwini Valley. Results indicated challenges in household access to basic resources and resource impacts, even in this relatively developed part of Swaziland. Proctor et al 2014 Ezulwini Env Health
We have recently been able to provide information sessions to children and caregivers on personal hygiene and brushing teeth. Just recently, on May 11, 2015, a local clinic did free testing to check all of our NCP children’s teeth. Donated funds were used to purchase toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as care for those teeth that have cavities or need extracting.
