Build A Future
The construction of Neighborhood Care Points including creating a safe and inviting learning environment are the foundation for children to foster growth and development. Moreover, by identifying needs of NCP’s the Foundation works together with the community, for the community at community level to build the necessary infrastructure for a fruitful learning and/or living environment.
Goal: Improved infrastructure, water & sanitation, and food security to improve the well-being of those affected by poverty
The Build-A-Future program can include constructing safe play grounds at the NCP’s, kitchens, classrooms, storerooms, fencing, gardens and much more. Other areas of interest aside from infrastructure development include food security initiatives as well as water and sanitation projects.
Most NCP’s only started with a tree whereby we would find voluntary teachers teaching under the shade to offer OVCs an opportunity to come from their homesteads and feel a part of a family and more importantly, be given the care each child deserves. To date, we have built 7 classrooms, 3 kitchens, 5 playgrounds and are still constructing toilets, kitchens, playgrounds, store rooms and gardens for improved food security, not only for the children, but also the communities at large. One meal is also often provided at each NCP, though it doesn’t always include vegetables, and it is often the only meal of the day children will be sure to consume. We are striving to cultivate gardens which require a collaborative approach in order for the children and communities at large to benefit.
Sourcing local tools and building materials, we heavily rely on funding support from small grants and donations to make our building programs such a success. With an increasing need to provide food for our NCP children, about 60 -100 per NCP, we are sourcing alternative ways to make this a reality. Our mission is thus to ensure that this meal meets their nutritional needs and thus creating sustainable gardens will help achieve this. We are currently sourcing funds to ensure all of our NCP’s have a water tank, fencing and all the necessary tools and the capacity to maintain and grow hearty vegetable gardens.
